William Robert Hamilton was a doctor who studied under his father.
William Robert traveled for seven years at sea with his Uncle John in the
Royal Navy. He died late in the summer or early fall of 1830 from an
epidemic that swept through the Holston Valley, probably cholera or
typhoidThe doctors blamed The Scourge on stagnant water left in river bottom
ponds after the floods subsided. It was the custom then for men to go to
the fields without breakfast, returning home later to eat. The doctors
of the day changed this plan and had them eat before going to work. More
practically, a system of ditches was made in the bottoms, and the land
was drained.
William married Sarah Bell Brandon, daughter of Jarret Brandon and Margaret Bell, about 1790. Sarah was born about 1770 in Virginia or North Carolina. She died before Jun 1830 in Hawkins County, Tennessee.

197). In 1833, Robert deeded land in Gravelly to John Shough (Bk 14, pg.
41 & 42).
