2. James Hamilton (John William ) was born about 1700 in Ireland.

There is a tale of James Hamilton that he travelled to Scotland (around the same time his brothers, Robert and William, emigrated to America) and married. His wife bore him a son, Alexander, prior to his death. When Alexander grew to a man he made his way to America in search of his father’s family.

He had the following children:

  7 M i Alexander(?) Hamilton.

6. William Hamilton (John William ) was born about 1708 in Ireland. He died about 1775 in Fauquier County, Virginia.

Hamilton who obtained it from Lovetta (Wood) Carson (HNGS #430). Her
sources included three family histories: Rev. Hale Snow Hamilton; John
Bell Hamilton, II; Nan Cox Ford. Dates are estimates.

As recorded in notes to his father's data, William and his brother Robert
were reported to have been banished from the Kingdom, their lands
confiscated because of their sympathies to the Irish rebels. They sailed
to America with their wives and children around 1755 and settled in
Fauquier County, Virginia. William was a lawyer. (One version says they
settled near Petersburg, Va.)

William married Catherine Graham about 1730 in Ireland. Catherine was born about 1710 in Ireland.

They had the following children:

+ 8 M i James Hamilton was born about 1732.
  9 M ii John Hamilton was born about 1734 in Ireland.

John was a surgeon in the Royal Navy.
  10 M iii Thomas Hamilton was born about 1736 in Ireland.
+ 11 M iv William Robert Hamilton MD was born about 1738 and died after Jun 24 1801.
